Migration and rapid urbanization are intertwined processes. Migration acts as a driving force behind urbanization, while rapid urbanization presents opportunities and challenges for migrants and urban areas alike. Understanding and managing these relationships is crucial for sustainable and inclusive urban development. The side activity aims to provide a platform for informed discussion and analysis of the challenges and opportunities brought about by urbanization in the Philippines, with a particular focus on migration and over population dynamics. The activity will also present strategies, approaches, and relevant tools for implementing urban development initiatives. It seeks to gather experts, policymakers, LGU implementers, and other key individuals to explore the advantages of using the RAPID and RBIM tools in managing the impacts of migration and urbanization.

Objectives

The activity aims to:
  1. To promote awareness of the importance of sustainable and inclusive urban development in the face of migration and rapid urbanization;

  2. To examine the latest social and demographic data in the Philippines and its implications for urbanization;

  3. To understand the key drivers and patterns of migration and their impact on cities and rural areas;

  4. To present the RAPID and RBIM tools as CPD initiatives; and,

  5. To discuss the challenges and opportunities of urbanization in the context of population growth and migration.

Expected Outcomes/Outputs

The participants to fully understand the key drivers and patterns of migration, its impact on cities and rural areas. For the attendees to be made aware of some CPD initiatives that target assessment and gathering of migration data.
